Breathing also impacts our metabolism, digestion and fullness signals. When we focus on breathing before and during meals and snacks, it enhances our digestion, satiety and nutrient absorption. So the deeper and slower we breathe, the more optimally our digestion can function, and the more in tune we can be with our body and fullness signals.

When we eat quickly, are stressed, watch TV, read, or do work during mealtimes it is hard for us to hear when we are full. Being present and relaxed before meals, as well as taking a couple of minutes to pause and practise mindful breathing during our meal, means we can tune in to the signs and signals of our body, and connect with ourselves and the food in front of us. .............................................................................................. 👉  Start with one meal this week without any distractions. This includes the TV, books, newspapers, laptops, iPad and mobile phones.  It is best to be mildly to moderately hungry,  if you are over hungry it will be too difficult to stop at a comfortable fullness. Make sure you have enough food on your plate and that you are eating a meal that you enjoy, and that has some substance. 👉 Take 5-10 deep breaths before you eat.  This calms your digestion down and gets you in the present moment for the meal experience.

Old picture, but the results are still real! My name is Jessica. I’m a registered nurse on a congestive heart failure floor. I’m from Indiana. I’m married to my wonderful husband and we have a cat named Taco. My health journey began in 2018 when I was fed up with the weight I was continuing to gain in college. My husband, fiancé at the time, and I decided to start counting calories and making better choices. I was on phentermine for awhile and got down to my lowest weight of 173. (Please send me questions about phentermine if you have them, I’m an open book!) I’ve slowly crept back up and am typically anywhere between 185-189. I’m restructuring my whole thought process and focusing 100% on nutrition and 100% on exercise. They say 80/20, but I don’t want to put only 20% effort into anything! I’m a girl who comes from a long line of diabetes, heart conditions and many other preventable disease processes and I’m determined to change my story before it becomes laid in stone. I have a long way to go, but I’m very excited. I started this page for motivation and accountability from others in the same boat as me and I’m so excited to see where this takes me!

It’s not always easy. I struggle. I have days where I feel like I am not getting anywhere.  Then, I take a step back, stop feeling sorry for myself and look how far I have come, in really a short amount of time... I am my own worst critic... to a fault sometimes.  I always think I am not doing good enough or I am not pushing hard enough, but I am + I do. .

When I first said yes to committing to this journey, to be honest, I was terrified. Terrified I would fail + I wouldn’t be “able” to do it. That I wouldn’t stick to it. That I wouldn’t be good enough.  But I didn’t fail, I won’t fail.  I AM able to do it. I WILL stick to it. I AM good enough.

This community has given me so much + given me the I WILL, I CAN mindset.  You are beautiful + CAPABLE. Don’t be terrified like I was.
