Day 14 - Numbat! One of the cutest Aussie marsupials going around 😚
A shoutout to @middleton_interiors for putting these guys on my radar! Hoping I’ve done the little guy justice 🙃
There are only around 1,000 numbats left in the wild, so they definitely need more publicity. #endangeredanimals #atozanimals #numbat

What do you think of this Amur Tiger?
Amur tigers are the largest of the Tiger subspecies. Due to being poached for their fur there are only around 540 of them left.
Zoos are helping to ensure their survival by increasing their numbers through specialised breeding programmes. -

The chimpanzee is listed on the IUCN Red List as an endangered species. Between 170,000 and 300,000 individuals are estimated across its range in the forests and savannahs of West and Central Africa. The biggest threats to the chimpanzee are habitat loss, poaching and disease.#chimpanzees #apes #dallas #dallaszoo #dallaszooapes #endangeredspecies #endangeredanimals #love #loveanimals #aroundtheworld

Happy #wildlifewednesday! Did you know that #worldpangolinday was just 4 days ago?? Yeah, this ambiguous mass of scales is actually the worlds most trafficked animal. Swipe left to see his face!
#Pangolins are one of the worlds most unique animals. They are the only mammals to have their entire body covered in scales. This unfortunately makes them all the more desirable for illegal trafficking. Little is known about them, but they do have extremely long tongues (often longer than their body!) and they curl up into a ball to protect themselves.
Show some love for the #pangolin and help protect #endangeredanimals by supporting ethical brands like #VentureSupply!

Some of the animals I’ve drawn over the last few weeks from my A to Z #endangeredanimals sketchbook challenge. Not sure what I’m going to do with them all yet, but planning on going back and refining a few of these. Pretty pumped I’m halfway through though!

Elephants, the largest land animals on Earth express emotions similar to humans.
They express heightened joy, bellowing loudly during the birth of a baby and at a reunion. When elephants reunite they flap ears, click tusks and entwine trunks.
Baby elephants are often pushed under Mums belly to protect them from predators and the hot sun.
Elephants remember and mourn loved ones, with evidence that they have a concept of death.
Young orphaned elephants suffer from a type of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, requiring comfort from a human carer.
Elephants are suffering from a form of chronic stress after sustaining decades of killings and habitat loss.
There is evidence of an upsurge in rage of wild elephant herds as they come into closer contact with humans.

Did you know? Rainforests are our best defence against climate change. They regulate global temperatures, stabilise local climates, ocean currents, wind patterns and rainfall. We need rainforests. So let’s stop destroying them. @rainforestalliance •

A little snapshot from our home. This is Jasper who is clearly helping with the new cheetah puzzle we’ve started.

I don’t normally visit graveyards but I will always make an exception for The Dead Vlei in Sossusvlei. This clay pan, with its skeletal remains of trees (each over 700 years old), surrounded by some of the tallest and oldest sand dunes in the world, is simply spectacular!

Meet #795, a resident Gopher Tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) at Archbold Biological Station 🐢... a funny story goes along with this, so keep reading for a chuckle (please note that kidnapping endangered species is NOT funny, but the story has a happy ending so let’s take it in stride! 😄) .
•
This didn’t happen to #795... but her female rival, #1721, was not so lucky... apparently a young couple drove to Archbold in hopes they could buy some flowers (???). While at the facility, they passed a tortoise on the side of the road (#1721). On their way out, the man driving the vehicle decided to take #1721... WHY? Because he wanted to eat her for dinner... 😰🤦🏼‍♀️ .
•
Just like #795, #1721 also had a radio transmitter on her shell, but the man hacked it off with a machete because he feared it could be tracked 🤦🏼‍♀️ so how in the world did #1721 safely return to Archbold?! .
•
About 100 miles away from Archbold, Florida police responded to a 911 call from a woman who claimed to be in danger. It turns out, the man and woman who kidnapped #1721 got into an argument, so the woman called 911 and accused the man of hitting her... when emergency services arrived on the scene, she told them he had a tortoise in the trunk that he was planning to eat 😂 (wtfff) at that point, the animal was handed over to the Fish and Wildlife Conservation authorities, who then returned the tortoise to Archbold. #1721 is actually one of the few surviving tortoises that was marked by Archbold biologists back in the 1980s and serves as a crucial study animal for Archbold. 🐢 Luckily, #1721 was returned safely after her big adventure on Nov. 8th, 2016... so now she can live out her tortoise-life eating all the grass she wants, and occasionally scuffling with #795 😂👍🏻 .
