The WORST thing that could happened when #traveling ✈️, especially abroad and far away from #home 🌏, is to book a hotel room that is advertised as #accessible only to discover it is NOT. That is exactly what had happened on a recent trip to #paris . We have arrived few hours before check-in time, so we couldn’t go in. But something was bothering me about the lobby of the #hotel enough that i had to ask them to let me see the room. Sometimes you just get a feeling that something is not right. The bathroom only had a grab-bar in the shower, but no shower chair and no grab-bar by the toilet??!! The bed was very low (usually they are too high) and no space for a hoist. In reality, there was nothing in that room that would qualify it as an #accssble room. Not to mention little steps to the lobby from the street (not mentioned when booking?!! 🤦🏼‍♀️). We had to scramble to find an ADA room immediately and ended up finding a room in Hôtel MARAIS Hôme. It was really cute, but far from accessible. It had a grab-bar by the toilet, which is what I needed, but it didn’t have either grab-bar in the shower or the shower chair. The bed was good height for me, 17” from the floor and very comfortable. However it would be useless for someone who needs to use a hoist, there was no space under the bed. There was also a really cute balcony, but due to bed and room size, inaccessible to me. Since this was a last minute thing for just one night, it did its purpose. The decor and colors of the room were really cute, but I would say it was 50% accessible. What was impressive is that the hotel had 2 underground floors (restaurant and gym) and they were accessible!! It would be much easier (and cheaper!) to make the room itself 100% accessible instead of drilling two floors underground making that accessible. Coincidentally another guest staying at the hotel, who happens to produce his own podcasts about urbanism and city life, approached me and asked if he could do an impromptu interview about #accessibility 👉🏼 @lifesizedcity .You never know who you will run into. On bright side - we were told a shower chair will be installed. 🤞🏼 .

Peppers at Palm Cove one of my favourite places to stay. We always stay ground level. There are lifts to the next level apartments and parking underneath. Great sandy lagoon pool for swimming. Walking path along the beach directly out front. #cerebralpalsy #travel #australia #wheelchairtravel #queensland #farnorthqueensland
