Desert Bloom ⠀ ⠀ I caught some nice light shining on a few poppies in the desert today. I’ve never really shot wildflowers before and it was more challenging than I thought. Finding flowers that are actually open and in big groups was hard to find. The areas that I did find blankets of flowers were sadly trampled on. If you’re going out to shoot the super-bloom, please stay on the trails and watch where you step. Events like this don’t happen very often! ⠀ EXIF - Single Exposures - Focus Stacked ⠀ Camera: Canon 6D Lens: Tamron 15-30 @ f/16 Shutter: 1/30 ISO: 100 Tripod: @vanguardworld ALTA Pro 2+ 264 carbon fiber Memory: @pnyusa 512gb Elite SD Card ⠀ Challenges: Wind and actually finding good flowers! I went to saguaro national park instead of the overcrowded areas because I was told some areas out there are starting to pop up. I asked a friend who works for SNP and she gave me a good spot to search. Thank you, Jessica!
Hey everyone! I hope you’re having a great week. I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I’ve been busy playing catch-up after an amazing houseboat photography trip on Lake Powell last week! For 4 days and 3 nights, we were in a beautiful remote location under some beautiful dark skies miles up the Glen Canyon. I’ll be posting photos and behind the scene content on @visitlakepowell so be sure to head there so you can see what we were up to! Also be sure to leave a comment of your favorite memory / activity to do here as well!
Hey guys! I’m really exited to share with you my latest short film “Sonoran Snow 2” which captured the 2nd rare snow that fell in Tucson last weekend. Using motion control timelapse and aerial cinematography, I captured the snow accumulating and melting in the Tucson Mountains. Tune in at 6pm on Facebook for a viewing party or please visit my website for the FULL 4K video and bonus content such as: behind the scenes photos of the equipment used, prints for sale, and more. I hope you enjoy and feel free to ask any questions!
Happy birthday to the magnificent Grand Canyon! 100 years ago President Woodrow Wilson signed the congressional act establishing Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Have you ever been? ⠀ EXIF - Single Exposure ⠀ Camera: Sony A7S2 Lens: Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 Shutter: 10 seconds ISO: 1,600
I can’t believe how much snow we’ve had this year in Tucson! It started snowing at 2,300 feet at 8am this morning and didn’t stop until about noon. Be sure to check out my IG story for more content. I’m excited to show you guys all the motion control timelapses and drone footage :)
A storm is a-comin’! Here are some clips I shot the other day when a cool snow storm came overnight in the Catalina’s! Excited to see what happens here in the desert over the next few days! Music by @m83music
Catalina’s ⠀ ⠀ I caught some nice light shining on the Catalina’s this morning after a little snowstorm passed through overnight. After driving around for 2 hours this morning not getting the shot I was anticipating, this one will do :). Read below for the challenges! ⠀ EXIF - Single Exposure ⠀ Camera: Canon 6D Lens: Canon 70-200 f/7.1 Shutter: 1/200 ISO: 100 Tripod: @vanguardworld ALTA Pro 2+ 264 carbon fiber Memory: @pnyusa 512gb Elite SD Card ⠀ Challenges: Actually taking a dang shot! I woke up this morning at 4 a.m after a terrible nights rest due to excitement. I was anticipating low level snow which made me rush to the mountains only to be turned away by a sheriff who beat me there by 1 minute (not joking, he pulled right up in front of me as I was getting to the stop sign from a different road 🤬.) So after driving around for 2 hours across town, I decided to head home and shoot it from the west side of town with downtown in the foreground from “A”

Finally found myself scrambling up / down Camelback Mountain via echo canyon today. I was super surprised how crazy the hike ended up being. I was under the impression it was pretty straight forward but nobody shows how much you have you scramble up boulders and hang on to railings and such. Pretty fun and wild. Anyways, I’m pretty excited to be staying at @mountainshadowsaz near the base of the mountain for a few days! #shotoniphone

Sonoran Sunsets ⠀ There have been some amazing sunsets these last couple of days in desert! Check out my story and live video to see how this shot came to life. I jotted down my challenges and notes to self for this shot at the bottom of this post. ⠀ How’s the weather where you are? Have you guys been seeing pictures of the crazy polar vortex? ⠀ EXIF - Single Exposure ⠀ Camera: Sony a7s2 Lens: Tamron 15-30 f/5.6 Shutter: 1/30 ISO: 400 Tripod: @vanguardworld ALTA Pro 2+ 264 carbon fiber Memory: @pnyusa 512gb Elite SD Card ⠀ Challenges: I was overwhelmed by the pure beauty of the sky in an area I’ve never been before, so I wasn’t sure what to shoot when the sky lit up. I thought I arrived in enough time to hike up the trail to the top of the mountain but I was wrong. I was also live on IG and shooting handheld at the same time which was a mistake. I wish I set up the tripod so I could shoot a tighter aperture to get everything in focus and at a lower ISO. ⠀ Notes
Spring 2019 Night Sky Photography Workshops are filling up! Join me in Tucson, Phoenix, Sedona, Joshua Tree, and Death Valley! More locations are being added including 2 storm chasing adventures, Australia, Iceland, and Norway! See my website for more information. Link in bio!
